Karen Burgin

Founder & Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Karen is owner and Director of Karen Burgin Ltd. Established in 2019 Karen now leads a team of 20 case managers with broad geographical coverage. A nurse by profession Karen has established case management services across the NHS, Voluntary and latterly private sectors. Prior to establishing her own company Karen was Director of Services for one of the largest providers in England. Karen has over 30 years experience of delivering case management services, having always maintained a client caseload. She works with adults and children with brain injury, acquired because of accident or medical negligence. Karen has extensive working knowledge of the litigation process, working as part of the team involving clinical and legal professionals.

Fiona Skelly

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Fiona is an Occupational Therapist by profession with the majority of her 33 years’ experience being with those with serious injury such as brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex orthopaedic injury and amputation. She maintains her clinical OT skills by working independently, alongside working as a case manager. She has experience of working with both pre and post litigation clients and all referral types.

Cheryl Bindley

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Cheryl is a Social Worker by profession and has worked within the case management field for over 15 years. Having held a series of senior management positions Cheryl is the Company Director of Care Services and is responsible for the direct employment service. She combines this with case management of a small caseload of adult client with acquired brain injury, physical disability, mental health challenges and challenging behaviour.

Karen Jones

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Karen is a Registered Social Worker with over 25 years’ experience working within hospital and community settings. She works as a case manager with adults and children with complex needs and has a good understanding of the litigation process and post settlement challenges. With over 15years experience of working with those with neurological challenges Karen has experience of the full spectrum of difficulties from coordinating rehabilitation teams, managing care teams and through to mental health challenges and best interest assessments. Karen continues to work within the NHS Palliative Care Services alongside her case management practice.

Audrey Bullock

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Audrey is a highly experienced case manager, occupational therapist and advanced sensory practitioner. Working with adults and children Audrey has extensive clinical experience of those with cerebral palsy and acquired brain injury. With over 10 years senior experience as a case manager Audrey is a skilled communicator with ability to develop and manage robust care, support and rehabilitation teams.

Birgit Richardson-Rathje

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Birgit combines her case management practice with that of occupational therapy. She has worked as a case manager for adults with neurological conditions, including acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury since 2010. Birgit works with pre and post settlement clients and has extensive knowledge of the medicolegal process. She has a keen interest in evidence-based practice and maintains her clinical skills via her own private OT practice.

Catherine Cotter

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Catherine is a social worker by profession and has worked as a case manager since 2014. She works exclusively with children and young adults with acquired brain injury or cerebral palsy. Catherine has extensive knowledge of the litigation process having previously practiced as a solicitor in the field of medical negligence. Catherine brings a calm, considered and detail orientated approach to her work and builds lasting working relationships with her clients and families.

Lucy Naven

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Lucy has over 20years experience as a case manager, working predominantly with adults and children with acquired brain injury and complex needs. She completed her MSc in Occupational Psychology achieving Chartered status in 2000. Lucy has extensive experience of working within the litigation process and with those post settlement. With over 15 years senior experience as a case manager Lucy is a skilled communicator with ability to develop and manage robust care, support and rehabilitation teams.

Spencer Rathborne

Vocational Case Manager

Spencer is a Vocational Consultant with over 25 years experience of working in vocational rehabilitation and 20 years experience as a Vocational Case Manager/Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant. His role is to support and coordinate successful vocational rehabilitation programmes. Spencer has achieved industry recognition over many years for his work as a vocational case manager working with those with serious injury such as acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury and mental health challenges. He is skilled at working with multidisciplinary teams, families and employer/employee relationships to facilitate client progression. Spencer works with clients from age 15 years and has completed extensive transition work with young brain injured clients to support them into further/higher education and or employment.

Jo Kerr

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Jo is a special education needs teacher and Arts Psychotherapist who has professional and personal experience of working with both children and adults with acquired brain injury. As an SEN teacher Jo has a thorough understanding of the funding streams within education and has used this knowledge to secure statutory provision alongside private funding. Jo has experience of working with those with clinical needs cand care support teams.

Amy Gibbs

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Amy is an Occupational Therapist by profession and combines her case management work with expert witness work and clinical practice. Experienced in housing assessments, adaptations as well as functional assessments for adults and children with complex needs Amy can draw on a range of skills for her role as case manager. Amy works on a single and joint referral basis as well as those post litigation.

Susan Wood

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Susan is a Registered Children’s Nurse by profession working with those with complex needs, life shortening and life limiting conditions. Her case management experience has extended to working with adults with significant mental health challenges alongside complex clinical need. She has extensive clinical leadership, strategic and operational management experience.  Susan has a thorough understanding of statutory service funding routes for children and adults, having been successful in securing major contributions from ICB’s and safeguarding private funds where applicable.

Victoria Jackson

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Vicky is a Registered Nurse with over 20years post registration experience and has worked as a case manager since 2012. Working with clients from age 0 upwards who have complex clinical needs Vicky can utilise her community care clinical lead skills to develop, shape and manage rehabilitation, care and support teams to ensure needs are met and outcomes achieved. Vicky is skilled at navigating the complex family dynamics that can create additional pressures in challenging circumstances. Vicky has extensive clinical experience of those with cerebral palsy, acquired brain and spinal cord injury. Vicky completes expert care reports alongside her case management practice.

Sharron Sendall

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Sharron is an Occupational Therapist by profession having worked in the NHS, Social care and private sector since qualifying. Sharron has over 7years’ experience as a case manager for those with brain injury, spinal cord injury and complex trauma. Sharron has experience of working with those still in litigation either on a joint or single referral basis as well as post settlement. She has experience of developing and managing care teams and undertakes care expert work alongside her case management practice.

Sarah Boulton

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Sarah is a Registered Social Worker with over 20years experience working with Children and Families. She has managed and developed services within the social care field and continues to work as a social worker alongside her case management practice. Sarah has over 5years experience as a case manager working with children with significant and complex needs following injury or accident. She is compassionate in her work, with clear oversight in creating change, to make sure the best services are being provided.

Loretta Musapatike

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Loretta is a qualified Paediatric Nurse with extensive experience of those with complex needs requiring complex care and nursing skills in the community. Loretta works with children of all ages and has experience of case management for single, joint and post settlement referrals. Loretta combines her work as a case manager with that of expert witness.

Katy Perrault

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Katy is an experienced Children’s Occupational Therapist with over 20years practice with babies and children with neurological difficulties in Canada. Following a move to the UK Katy has worked within the NHS, Private sector, Charitable sector and now has her own independent Paediatric Occupational Therapy Service which she runs alongside her case management practice. Katy has significant experience of managing upper limb conditions and she has a keen interest in research.

Joanne Adams

Catastrophic Injury Case Manager

Jo is a Highly Specialised Physiotherapist by profession with experience of working with children of all ages and young adults, across multiple settings such as inpatient, rehabilitation and community. Jo has held leadership as well as clinical roles and developed multidisciplinary services for children across her region. Jo has experience of working with children with complex difficulties as a result of cerebral palsy, complex cognitive and orthopaedic presentations and leading services for neonates across her region. Working with families is key to her role as well as having a sound understanding of safeguarding protocols and EHCP requirements

Clare Catchpole

Trainee Case Manager

Clare is a Registered Children’s Nurse with over 20years’ experience across a variety of settings including hospital, outpatient and community. Clare has experience of working as a Nurse Team Leader within a case managed package for a child with very complex needs as well as Care Manager for several complex packages of care. Clare is developing her career in case management by following the KBL traineeship programme for those new to case management. She is experienced at working with multidisciplinary teams and challenging family dynamics. She has experience of working with those in post settlement teams and is developing her experience within the litigation field. She is supervised by an experienced case manager and with access to a mentor of equivalent status progressing through the modules of our internal traineeship programme. Clare is working towards case manager status and being able to meet the criteria to become a Registrant of the Institute of Registered Case Managers

Jon Yates

Trainee Case Manager

Jon has worked across the care sector for over 15years and obtained industry recognised qualifications within this time. He joined KBL in 2021 working initially as a Team Leader and latterly as Care Manager and Assistant Case Manager. Jon is one of the first cohort undertaking an internal Case Manager Traineeship programme. Supervised by an experienced case manager and with access to a mentor of equivalent status Jon is progressing through the modules, ultimately working towards case manager status and to be able to meet the criteria to become a Registrant of the Institute of Registered Case Managers. Jon works with adults and children with complex needs

Taylor Sims

Trainee Case Manager

Taylor is a Psychology graduate with a long history of working within care and rehabilitation. She has been a Therapy Support Worker and Technical Instructor working with clients with acquired brain injury in the community. Taylor joined KBL in 2022 and has progressed from Assistant Case manager and Care Manager to Trainee Case Manager. Taylor works with adults and children with complex needs. She is supervised by an experienced case manager and with access to a mentor of equivalent status progressing through the modules of our internal traineeship programme. Taylor is working towards case manager status and being able to meet the criteria to become a Registrant of the Institute of Registered Case Managers
